The Hall was officially opened by the Marquess of Bath on Thursday 26th August 1937.
The opening ceremony was held at 3.30 pm and was followed by a dance in the evening. The admission price on the invitation was two shillings (10 pence)!
There are lots of activities that take place in the hall including Sunshine Pre-school, Bumps Babes & Tots, Over 60s, Whist, Puriton Players, WI, Rainbows, Brownies, Karate, Bingo, T'ai Chi, sequence dancing as well as an annual flower show.
In addition there is the annual pantomime put on by the Puriton Players and a variety of fund-raising events run by the village hall committee.
As well as that the hall is available for hire for private functions such as birthday parties, meetings etc.
The committee is made up of volunteers who represent the regular user groups and also members of the village elected on to the committee at the AGM. This takes place on the first Wednesday in May.
Village hall committee meetings take place on the first Wednesday of the month except August and are held in the committee room of the hall. Members of the public are most welcome to attend.
The centre is situated at Churchfield Drove, Batch Road, Puriton. We also have two meeting rooms to hire, and our Function Room/kitchen is ideal for private parties. Or hold a kids party in the Sports Hall.
Church Clist Room
The church clist room is next door to the church and is regular host to coffee mornings, craft clubs and provides a smaller meeting place. With a kitchen in the building, it can be hired out for private functions as well.
St. Michael's Church
The church stands proud in our village and is popular for weddings and funerals. It holds regular services - details of which can be found in the church magazine or in the clist room.
The 37 Club is located near the old ROF site in between Puriton and Woolavington. It offers a large function room and quality meals. For more information, visit www.37club.co.uk.
